Sidewalk Parade

On Monday, April 7th, the Sidewalk Parade for the 2008 Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival of Greater Philadelphia took place and drew crowds eager to celebrate the arrival of spring alongside performers from Tamagawa University Taiko and Dance.

Around 4:30, people gathered in the City Hall Courtyard where the Tamagawa girls instructed participants in a basic dance and song that would be the foundation of the procession. Police cleared the way as the costumed parade-goers made their way up and down Broad Street, with many happily intrigued onlookers stopping to watch the festivity. Tamagawa's drummers maintained a thundering rhythm from the back of the line, and even carried with them the odaiko -- the largest and most powerful drum in the ensemble.

The parade made its way back to the City Hall Courtyard for an energetic performance from Tamagawa that resonated impressively within the courtyard walls.
